How to Set Up Indoor Locating Points for Assets at a Customer Site
Indoor locating points allow the ARMOR platform to more accurately determine where assets are positioned inside a customer facility. This process is completed using the ARMOR Indoor Mapping Android app and requires capturing each Access Point (AP) location throughout the site.
Prerequisites
Before beginning, confirm the following:
- You have an Android device.
- Wi-Fi is enabled on the device.
- You have login credentials for the ARMOR mobile app.
- You are physically onsite or you know the Site name.
Step 1: Download & Install the App
- Go to the ARMOR website.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Download and install the Indoor Mapping Android App from the link provided.
Step 2: Log Into the App
- Open the app on your Android device.
- Sign in using your ARMOR credentials.
Step 3: Select the Correct Site
Option A — You Are Physically at the Site
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Sites Near Me.
- Your current Site should appear in the list.
- Tap the Site name to open it.
Option B — You Are Not at the Site
- Tap Sites at the bottom of the screen.
- Use the search bar to type in the Site name.
- Tap the correct Site in the results to open it.
Step 4: Add an Access Point Location
You will repeat this process for each Access Point (AP) inside the facility.
- Stand directly beneath the Access Point you want to map.
- Tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Select Add AP.
- Enter an AP Name:
- Use a descriptive location name, such as Frozen Goods, Front Entrance, or Produce Back Wall.
- Tap the + (plus) icon to add a BSSID.
- A list of nearby Wi-Fi signals will appear (usually with the strongest at the top).
- Select the correct customer Guest Wi-Fi SSID corresponding to the AP above you.
- Do not choose personal hotspots or non-store networks (for example, someone’s mobile hotspot).
- Tap the target icon next to the Latitude/Longitude fields.
- The app will use your device’s GPS to record the exact location where you are standing.
- Review the AP name, BSSID, and location.
- Tap Submit to save the Access Point.
Step 5: Repeat for Every Access Point
Walk to the next Access Point, stand directly underneath it, and repeat the process:
- Tap Add AP.
- Enter a descriptive AP Name.
- Select the correct Guest Wi-Fi BSSID from the list.
- Use the target icon to capture GPS coordinates.
- Tap Submit.
Continue until every Access Point in the site has been mapped.
Important Notes & Best Practices
- Always select the official store Guest Wi-Fi SSID, not a shopper’s or employee’s personal hotspot.
- Stand as close as possible under the AP to maximize location accuracy.
- Use consistent, descriptive AP names to make future troubleshooting easier.
- If the GPS fails to lock immediately, wait a few seconds and tap the target icon again.
Summary
Mapping indoor Access Points ensures ARMOR can accurately determine asset positions inside the facility. By walking the site and adding each AP into the app, you create a precise indoor location grid that significantly improves tracking performance and asset visibility for your operations.
