How Goal Templates Work

Overview

Goal Templates are pre-configured goal settings designed to help you quickly implement common monitoring scenarios without starting from scratch. Templates include recommended values, appropriate constraints, and helpful messaging—all based on industry best practices and common fleet management needs.

Think of templates as "goal blueprints" that you can customize to fit your specific requirements. They save time and ensure you're following proven monitoring strategies.

What's Included in a Template

Each goal template provides:

  • Pre-selected Data Field - The telemetry metric to monitor (e.g., runTimeToday, distanceToday)
  • Suggested Value - A recommended threshold based on typical operations
  • Appropriate Constraint - "At Least" or "At Most" depending on the goal type
  • Default Frequency - Daily, weekly, or monthly checking schedule
  • Pre-written Messages - Clear alert text for when the goal is triggered or cleared
  • Helpful Description - Explanation of what the goal monitors and why it's useful

Available Template Categories

Runtime Templates

  • Daily Runtime Goal - Ensure assets meet minimum daily operating hours
  • Weekly Runtime Goal - Track cumulative weekly utilization
  • Shift Runtime Goal - Monitor shift-based productivity targets

Distance Templates

  • Daily Distance Goal - Monitor route coverage and travel requirements
  • Weekly Distance Target - Track weekly mileage accumulation

Efficiency Templates

  • Charging Time Goal - Identify inefficient charging patterns
  • Idle Time Alert - Reduce wasted operating time
  • Utilization Rate Goal - Maximize asset productivity

Production Templates

  • Minimum Productivity Target - Ensure equipment meets output standards
  • Shift Performance Goal - Track shift-based key performance indicators

How to Use a Template

Step 1: Access Template Selection

  1. Navigate to Administration → Goal Management
  2. Click "+ Create New Goal"
  3. The template selection screen will appear

Step 2: Browse Templates by Category

Templates are organized by category for easy browsing:

  • All Templates - View every available template
  • Runtime - Operating hours and utilization
  • Distance - Travel and coverage metrics
  • Efficiency - Time optimization and waste reduction
  • Production - Output and productivity targets

Step 3: Select a Template

Click on any template card to see:

  • Detailed description of what the goal monitors
  • Suggested use case scenarios
  • Pre-configured settings and values

Click "Use This Template" to proceed with that template's settings.

Step 4: Customize the Template

Once you select a template, ARMOR automatically fills in the goal configuration form with the template's recommended settings. You can then customize:

  • Goal Name - Give your goal a descriptive name
  • Target Value - Adjust the threshold to match your specific requirements
  • Scope - Choose which assets, sites, or accounts this goal applies to
  • Schedule - Modify the checking frequency if needed
  • Messages - Customize the alert text to fit your team's language

Template Example: Daily Runtime Goal

Let's walk through a common template:

Template: Daily Runtime Goal

Description: Monitor daily runtime to ensure assets meet minimum utilization targets

Suggested Use Case: Track if equipment is being used effectively each day

Pre-configured Settings:

  • Data Field: runTimeToday
  • Constraint: At Least (>=)
  • Suggested Value: 4 hours
  • Frequency: Daily
  • Alert Message: "Daily runtime goal not met."
  • Clear Message: "Daily runtime goal achieved."

How you might customize it:

  • Change the value from 4 hours to 6 hours for a longer shift
  • Apply it only to forklifts at your main warehouse (scope to specific assets)
  • Adjust the message to say "Forklift utilization below target - please investigate"

Starting From Scratch (Custom Goals)

Not finding a template that fits your needs? You can always start from scratch:

  1. On the template selection screen, click "Create Custom Goal"
  2. Manually configure all goal settings
  3. Choose any telemetry data field from your assets
  4. Define your own thresholds, messages, and scope

Custom goals give you complete flexibility to monitor any metric in any way you need.

Benefits of Using Templates

Faster Setup

Templates eliminate guesswork by providing proven configurations. Instead of starting with a blank form, you get a working goal configuration in seconds.

Best Practice Guidance

Template values are based on industry standards and real-world fleet management experience. You benefit from ARMOR's expertise even if you're new to goal monitoring.

Consistency Across Fleet

Using templates ensures consistent monitoring standards across your entire fleet. Everyone measures runtime, distance, and efficiency the same way.

Easy to Modify

Templates are starting points, not rigid rules. Adjust any setting to match your specific operational needs while keeping the proven structure.

Template Best Practices

? Start with Templates, Then Customize

Even if a template doesn't perfectly match your needs, it's often faster to start with a similar template and adjust it than to build from scratch.

⚠️ Adjust Values for Your Operation

Template values are suggestions based on typical scenarios. Always adjust thresholds to match your specific equipment, shifts, and operational requirements.

? Test on a Small Scope First

When using a new template, apply it to a few assets first to verify the threshold values are appropriate before rolling out fleet-wide.

Common Questions

Can I edit a goal after creating it from a template?

Yes! Goals created from templates can be edited just like any other goal. Simply open the goal and modify any settings.

Are template values mandatory?

No. Template values are suggestions. You can (and should) adjust them to fit your specific operational needs before saving the goal.

What if I don't see a template for my use case?

Use the "Create Custom Goal" option to build a goal from scratch. You can monitor any telemetry field your assets report.

Can I create my own templates?

Currently, templates are system-defined. However, once you create a goal configuration you like, you can easily duplicate it and adjust the scope to apply it to other assets.
