Using Goal Templates

Overview

Goal templates are the fastest way to start monitoring your fleet's performance. They provide pre-configured goals based on common operational needs, allowing you to implement proven monitoring strategies in minutes rather than building goals from scratch.

This guide shows you exactly how to select and use a template to create your first goal.

Time to Complete: 3-5 minutes

Required Role: Account Admin or Super Admin

Quick Start: Creating a Goal from a Template

Step 1: Open Goal Creation

  1. Navigate to Administration → Goal Management
  2. Click "+ Create New Goal"
  3. The template selection screen appears automatically

Step 2: Browse Template Categories

Templates are organized by category. Click a category button to filter:

  • All Templates - View every available option
  • Runtime - Operating hours and utilization goals
  • Distance - Travel and coverage targets
  • Efficiency - Charging time, idle time, optimization
  • Production - Shift-based and output goals

Step 3: Select a Template

Each template card shows:

  • Template Name - What the goal monitors
  • Description - Detailed explanation of the metric
  • Category Icon - Visual indicator of goal type
  • Use Case - When and why to use this template

Click on a template card to view full details, then click "Use This Template".

Step 4: Customize the Template

ARMOR pre-fills the goal form with the template's settings. Review and adjust:

What's Pre-Configured

  • ✅ Data field to monitor (e.g., runTimeToday)
  • ✅ Constraint type (At Least or At Most)
  • ✅ Suggested target value
  • ✅ Checking frequency (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • ✅ Alert messages (set and clear text)

What You Need to Configure

  • ? Goal Name - Give it a unique, descriptive name
  • ? Account - Select the account (Super Admins only)
  • ? Target Value - Adjust the suggested threshold if needed
  • ? Scope - Choose which assets this applies to

Step 5: Define Scope

Choose where this goal should be applied:

  • All Assets - Fleet-wide monitoring
  • Specific Sites - Select one or more locations
  • Specific Assets - Choose individual equipment
  • Tag-Based - Apply to assets matching tags (e.g., "forklift", "warehouse-a")
? Recommended: Start with a small scope (5-10 assets) to test the threshold values before expanding fleet-wide.

Step 6: Save and Activate

  1. Review all settings
  2. Ensure "Active" toggle is enabled
  3. Click "Save Goal"

Your goal is now live! ARMOR will begin monitoring based on the template's schedule.

Popular Templates Explained

Daily Runtime Goal

What it monitors: Daily operating hours (runTimeToday)

Default target: At least 4 hours per day

Best for: Ensuring minimum equipment utilization

Use case: Alert when assets are underused or sitting idle

Typical customization:

  • Increase to 6-8 hours for full-shift operations
  • Decrease to 2-3 hours for backup/reserve equipment
  • Apply to specific asset types (forklifts, delivery vehicles, etc.)

Weekly Runtime Goal

What it monitors: Cumulative weekly runtime (runTimeWeek)

Default target: At least 20 hours per week

Default schedule: Monday through Friday

Best for: Tracking 5-day work week performance

Typical customization:

  • Adjust to 40 hours for full-time equipment
  • Change week days to include weekends for 24/7 operations
  • Lower target for part-time or seasonal assets

Daily Distance Goal

What it monitors: Miles or kilometers traveled (distanceToday)

Default target: At least 5 miles per day

Best for: Route-based operations, delivery vehicles, mobile equipment

Typical customization:

  • Increase for delivery routes (50+ miles)
  • Keep low for warehouse equipment that stays on-site
  • Monitor transport vehicles separately from stationary equipment

Charging Time Goal

What it monitors: Daily charging duration (chargeTimeToday)

Default target: At most 6 hours per day

Best for: Identifying inefficient charging patterns

Typical customization:

  • Adjust based on battery capacity and charger type
  • Lower for fast-charging equipment (3-4 hours)
  • Monitor opportunity charging vs. full charge cycles

Idle Time Alert

What it monitors: Time spent idle with motor running (idleTimeToday)

Default target: At most 2 hours per day

Best for: Reducing wasted time and energy consumption

Typical customization:

  • Lower threshold to 1 hour for high-efficiency operations
  • Apply to assets known for excessive idling
  • Create separate goals for different shifts or locations

Customizing Template Values

Adjusting Target Thresholds

Template values are suggestions based on typical operations. Always adjust to match your specific needs:

If your operation is... Adjust templates by...
24/7 shifts Increase runtime targets to 8-12 hours
Part-time use Decrease runtime targets to 2-4 hours
High-intensity routes Increase distance targets significantly
Stationary equipment Focus on runtime, not distance
Fast charging available Lower charging time targets to 3-4 hours

Modifying Alert Messages

Customize the pre-written messages to match your team's language:

Template default:

"Daily runtime goal not met."

Customized examples:

  • "Forklift underutilized - check with warehouse supervisor"
  • "Equipment runtime below shift target - please investigate"
  • "Low utilization detected - asset may need reassignment"

Template Selection Tips

Choosing the Right Template

For general utilization monitoring:

  • Start with Daily Runtime Goal
  • Simple, universally applicable
  • Easy to understand and act on

For route-based operations:

  • Use Daily Distance Goal
  • Ensures coverage area requirements are met
  • Tracks mobility and deployment effectiveness

For efficiency improvement:

  • Combine Idle Time Alert and Charging Time Goal
  • Identifies waste and optimization opportunities
  • Reduces operating costs

For shift-based tracking:

  • Use Weekly Runtime Goal with specific days selected
  • Aligns with work schedules
  • Better for cumulative performance vs. daily spikes

When to Skip Templates

Create a custom goal instead when:

  • You need to monitor a unique telemetry field not in templates
  • Your target metric doesn't fit any category (very specialized equipment)
  • You're setting up maintenance-based goals tied to custom intervals

After Using a Template

Verify the Goal is Working

  1. Check Goal Management list - Confirm goal appears with "Active" status
  2. Wait for first check cycle - Daily goals check overnight, weekly on selected days
  3. Review alerts - Navigate to Alerts page to see if goal-triggered notifications appear
  4. View asset details - Check individual asset pages for goal status widgets

Fine-Tuning Template Values

After running for a few days:

  1. Review alert frequency - Are you getting too many or too few alerts?
  2. Analyze actual performance - Compare threshold to real-world data
  3. Adjust target values - Edit the goal to refine thresholds
  4. Modify scope - Add or remove assets based on results
? Iterative Approach: It's normal to adjust goal thresholds 2-3 times before finding the right values. Use actual performance data to guide your refinements.

Common Template Combinations

Complete Fleet Utilization Package

  • Daily Runtime Goal (minimum utilization)
  • Idle Time Alert (waste reduction)
  • Charging Time Goal (efficiency optimization)

Route Operations Package

  • Daily Distance Goal (coverage requirements)
  • Daily Runtime Goal (shift productivity)
  • Battery Level Goal (operational readiness)

5-Day Work Week Package

  • Weekly Runtime Goal (Monday-Friday cumulative tracking)
  • Idle Time Alert (waste monitoring during work hours)

Best Practices

  • Start with one template at a time - Don't overwhelm yourself with multiple goals immediately
  • Test on a pilot group - Apply to 5-10 assets before fleet-wide rollout
  • Give it a week - Let the goal run for at least 5-7 days before adjusting thresholds
  • Document your customizations - Keep notes on why you changed template defaults
  • Share with your team - Ensure operators and managers understand what's being monitored

Troubleshooting

Template Not Triggering Alerts

Possible causes:

  • Threshold value is too lenient (all assets easily meet it)
  • Scope is too narrow (no assets match the selection)
  • Assets aren't reporting the required telemetry field

Solution: Check the Goal Management page to verify the goal is Active, review scope settings, and ensure assets are sending telemetry data.

Too Many Alerts from Template

Possible causes:

  • Threshold value is too strict for your operation
  • Scope is too broad (includes assets that shouldn't be monitored)

Solution: Edit the goal to increase/decrease the target value, or narrow the scope to exclude assets that don't fit the profile.
