Replacing ARMOR 2+ with an ARMOR 4 Upgrade for Kaivac Machines

Welcome to our guide on upgrading your Kaivac machine from an ARMOR 2+ to an ARMOR 4 device. Keith Bunch is here to walk you through the process step-by-step. Most Kaivac yellow machines are equipped with an ARMOR 2+ unit from the factory, and upgrading to ARMOR 4 will enhance your machine's capabilities.

Items Included in Your ARMOR 4 Kit

The upgrade kit comes with the following components:

• ARMOR 4 with IP67 5-Wire Harness
  • Compatible with 9v to 90v power supply.
• New IMEI Sticker
• ARMOR 2 Wire Cable
• Wago Connectors
  • Four 3-way Wagos.
  • (Optional: ARMOR 2+ machines may already have Wago connectors installed.)
• Instruction Sheet or QR Code for Installation

How to Perform the Upgrade

1. Check In with Management

   • Ensure the upgrade is authorized before proceeding.

2. Locate the Kaivac Machine

   • Typically found in the janitor’s closet.
   • The machine is a Kaivac 17501 model with a 36v lithium battery.

3. Prepare the Machine

   • Empty both the waste and clean water tanks.
   • Tip: Use the vacuum hose to speed up the emptying process.
   • Verify that the battery is charged and connected to the machine.
     • Note: Many clubs have a backup battery available if needed.

4. Access the Internal Components

   • Open the black box and remove the inner shield to locate the ARMOR 2 unit on the right side.

5. Install the New 5-Wire ARMOR 4 Harness

   • Connect the wires one at a time, matching each color.
   • Plug in the harness to the ARMOR 4 unit to power it on.
   • Verify that the ARMOR 4 is operational by checking for flashing green and red LED lights.

Testing the Installation

1. Visit check.armordata.io

   • Confirm that the device has connectivity.

2. Run a Quick Test

   • Operate the vacuum motor for two minutes and check the utilization metrics.

Final Installation Steps

1. Mount the ARMOR 4 Unit

   • Use the provided 3M double-sided tape to attach the ARMOR 4 unit.
   • You can place it on top of the old ARMOR or on the side of the Kaivac case.

2. Reassemble the Machine

   • Put the yellow Kaivac machine back together, ensuring all components are securely in place.

Apply the New IMEI Stickers

1. Attach the Stickers in Three Locations
   • Place one on the side of the black box next to the equipment’s serial number tag.
   • Affix the other two inside the black box in prominent areas.

Register the Device

1. Take a Photo of the IMEI Sticker Next to the Serial Number Tag
2. Send the Photo to Support
   • Email the image to support@armordata.com.
   • Also, attach the photo to your work ticket for documentation.
