ARMOR 4 Upgrade for Kaivac 17501DC Yellow Machine

Welcome to the step-by-step guide for upgrading your Kaivac 17501DC yellow machine from an ARMOR 2+ to an ARMOR 4 unit. This guide features Keith Bunch walking you through the upgrade process. Most Kaivac yellow machines come with an ARMOR 2+ installed from the factory, and upgrading to ARMOR 4 will enhance the machine’s performance.

Note: This upgrade uses the "OEM" wire harness, where all the wire colors match. Additionally, the two ground wires from the ARMOR 2+ are not needed for the ARMOR 4.

What’s Included in Your ARMOR 4 Kit

The ARMOR 4 upgrade kit contains the following items:

• ARMOR 4 with IP67 5-Wire Harness
  • Supports a power range of 9v to 90v.
• New IMEI Sticker
• ARMOR 2 Wire Cable
• Wago Connectors
  • Includes four 3-way Wago connectors.
  • (Optional: ARMOR 2+ units may already have Wago connectors installed.)
• Instruction Sheet or QR Code for Installation Guide
  • You can also search for "ARMOR 4 upgrade installation" on YouTube for a video tutorial.

Upgrade Instructions

1. Check In with Management

   • Confirm that you have approval to perform the upgrade.

2. Locate the Kaivac Machine

   • The machine is likely stored in the janitor’s closet.
   • It should be a Kaivac 17501 model equipped with a 36v lithium battery.

3. Prepare the Machine for Upgrade

   • Empty the waste and clean water tanks.
     • Tip: Use the vacuum hose to speed up the clean water emptying process.
   • Ensure the battery is charged and connected to the machine.
     • Note: Most clubs keep a spare battery on hand if needed.

4. Access the Internal Components

   • Open the black box and remove the inner shield.
   • Locate the ARMOR 2 unit on the right side inside the black box.

5. Install the New 5-Wire ARMOR 4 Harness

   • Connect each wire one at a time, matching the colors.
   • Power on the ARMOR 4 by plugging in the harness.
   • Verify that the ARMOR 4 is operational by checking for flashing green and red LED lights.

Testing the Installation

1. Visit check.armordata.io

   • Confirm that the ARMOR 4 has connectivity.

2. Run a Quick Test

   • Operate the vacuum motor for two minutes to check utilization metrics.

Final Installation Steps

1. Mount the ARMOR 4 Unit

   • Use the provided 3M double-sided tape to secure the ARMOR 4.
   • Position it either on top of the old ARMOR or on the side of the Kaivac case.

2. Reassemble the Yellow Kaivac Machine

   • Reattach all components, ensuring everything is securely in place.

Apply the New IMEI Stickers

1. Attach the Stickers in Three Locations
   • Place one sticker on the side of the black box near the equipment’s serial number tag.
   • Affix the other two stickers inside the black box in prominent areas.

Register the Device

1. Capture a Photo of the IMEI Sticker Next to the Serial Number Tag
2. Submit the Photo for Registration
   • Email the image to support@armordata.com.
   • Also, include the photo in your work ticket for documentation.
